Taekwondo is truly an art for all men, women and children, regardless of age. It is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean martial arts, which teaches more than mere fighting skills. It is a discipline, which shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life by training our body and mind.
The name "Taekwondo" is composed of three parts:
•Tae = foot, leg or to step on
•Kwon = fist or fight
•Do = the way of or discipline
First, Taekwondo is the right way of using the Tae and Kwon [fists and feet] or all the parts of the body represented by the fists and feet.
Secondly, Taekwondo is a way to control or calm down fights and keep the peace. This concept comes from the meaning of "Tae Kwon," to put the fists under control [literally "to step on the fists"].
Thus, the comprehensive meaning would be the right way of using all parts of the body to stop fights and build a better and more peaceful world.
